Time to seed

Tuesday we started the process of seeding the fairways, aprons and collars. We finished the aprons and collars and will continue on the fairways, with a goal to finish seeding by the end of next week.

Once seeded please follow cart signs and rope. On all other holes please drive your carts in the rough, but try not to drive in a path right along the fairway edge. We are starting to get some wear patterns right next to the fairways from the cart traffic, please scatter your driving patterns.

Below is a picture of our 1982 over seeder. Technology has not changed much and this machine still works great.

Questions or comments are always welcome!!

We will see you on the course.

Golf course update 4-23-15

It's been a busy week for the maintenance staff. This cold windy weather has not been good for golfers, but has allowed the staff to accomplish some good things this week.

First item is that we fertilized the entire golf course. Soil temperatures did receded slightly, but we felt it was a good time to get the nutrients on the ground. The plants will then use the nutrients when the soil temps warm, typically that temp needs to be around 50 degrees for the plants to start utilizing nutrients. Current soil temps in the mid forties.

One of the next items is we mowed all of the sodded tees. Some we mowed down to a height under 1", these tees are getting closer to open for play. Just a reminder to please stay off all new tee areas until we officially open them for play.

The rest of the seeded tees are starting to germinate. I am not sure at this time how much will germinate, time will feel if we need to reseed them. At least there is some growth starting on all the tees.

And finally this week we received a shipment of grass seed. This will be used on the fairways, collars and aprons. We will begin seeding when the soil temperatures warm up, maybe by the end of next week.

You comments are always welcome!!

Weather looks to be warming - we will see you on the course.

Irrigation

The valves on #11 green thawed out over night. The irrigation system is now fully up and running!!!  Good shower of rain would still be a tremendous help.

This week we fertilized the new tee boxes.  This should help jump start some growth. The sodded tees are starting to look good, not sure when we will start to utilize these tees. In the mean time please stay off all new tee areas!!  We are also starting see some growth on the seeded tees, warm weather and rain would be very beneficial to get these new tees established.

We will see you on the course!!

Golf Course Update

The course is starting to green up!!  The main area of concern right now is the fairways and collars. Some of these areas will just take some time, others will need to be reseeded.

We mowed the sodded tees for the first time yesterday. Looking pretty good. Still need to let the roots establish, this will also help firm up the sand base.

Irrigation is all running, with the exception of #11 green complex. The line is still froze, until it thaws we will continue to hand water.

Missed us again!!

Well it looks like the much needed moisture missed us again. It would sure nice to get some kind of moisture soon.

We are making steady strides everyday on the irrigation system.  We still have areas that are froze, two complete green complexes that do not work yet. At any rate steady improvement is what we will take right now.

As many of you have noticed some of the fairways are struggling. Some of the brown areas will green up, others will need to be seeded. Not sure how much seeding will be needed, with some warmer weather we will know more. I have taken a couple of samples and have them in the shop, we are keeping them moist and warm. After a few days there is some green starting to emerge, a promising sign. As shown below is a sample from 9 fairway.

Looks to be a nice weekend we will see you on the course.

Irrigation Update

We are now at 90% of the irrigation is up  and working.  All the main lines are fully charged and seem to be holding good pressure. We still have several heads and valves to thaw out, hard to believe we still have some frost issues. I am hoping by the end of the weekend we can get most everything working.

Goods news is all the new irrigation on the tees boxes is working as designed. Time will tell when we can get these new tees open for play, more on that in the next few weeks. Below is a picture of #2 tee complex, watering with freezing temperatures makes some nice ice.

Have a wonderful Easter Weekend with family and friends!!!

Golf Course/Irrigation

This hot windy dry spring weather has not been good for the golf course. We have had several days 20 degrees over average temperature, then top it off with the high wind speeds. Several areas on the course are in dire need of some moisture.

The last three days we have put all of our effort into to getting water to some areas and also getting the irrigation system on. As of Wednesday we finally have all the main lines charged. If you have been on the course you have seen several valve box covers and sprinkler heads laying out. We have done this to help thaw frosted or frozen components. Currently we are in the process of going through the lateral lines and sprinkler heads. As of Wesnesday we have gone through all the greens, tees and six fairways. Now in these areas we still have some heads and valves still froze.
The plan for Thursday is to go through the rest of the course and see where we are at, hoping by the end of the week have most everything working.

A good shower of rain would be very beneficial.

I hope to see you on the course!!
